Full Calf. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 3 volumes. [2], cxxviii, 194; [2], 582; [2], 428 pp. Recently recased with red calf boards, with gilt detailing to the spine and edges of the boards. All edges gilt. Some scratches to the boards and patches of sunning. Original boards by Eedy. Some Darkening to the front endpapers and slight spotting throughout, particularly to the second and third volumes. With marbled endpapers and heraldic bookplates to the front endpapers of every volume. The first county history published of Berkshire, with a focus on the antiquarian - gravestones, monuments, family 'pedigrees' etc. With a fold out frontis portrait to the first volume as well as an elaborate fold out map featuring a large engraving of Windsor Castle, and various fold-out genealogical tables in the other 2 volumes and one plate in the third volume. Written by Elias Ashmole, whose donation of his collection of curiosities and antique manuscripts to the University of Oxford in 1677 created the Ashmolean Museum, named for him. 8vo. Folding Map.
